Reid and I had the awesome opportunity to go down to Arizona with my Mom to visit Ryan, Courtney and sweet Baby Owen. My dad was going to Israel, so he was sending her down. He asked if we wanted to go with her, and OF COURSE we did! Jake decided that he would need to sit this vacay out since they're so busy at work right now, but gave us his blessing to go on without him. As the actual trip neared, along with his impending loneliness, lack of comparable fun and the inclement weather...he started to regret turning down the chance to leave. Spoiler Alert - he survived just fine without us, but refuses to stay home again:)
I packed our bags, bought Reid some shorts and short sleeves and drove down to Magrath to spend to meet up with Nana. From there, we drove to Great Falls, MT and caught our flight. Not before a much anticipated stop at Target (I missed it so much) and a shockingly inexpensive trip through the Wendy's drive-thru. We felt like the Ikea lady on the commercial, where she's speed walking out of the store with all her bags in tow, yelling at her husband to "START THE CAR!!!" because she thinks they forgot to charge her for everything. It's sad that the $.99 menu in the states is the very same $1.89 menu here in Canada. They even have their own jingle..."My, My...for $1.89!" Annoying. Anyway...ARIZONA!
Reid did fantastic on the first flight. He fell asleep 3 minutes after we sat down and woke up as we hit the tarmac in Salt Lake. Salt Lake to Phoenix was slightly different. I had a bright eyed and bushy tailed 1 year old.
Thank goodness for goldfish, fruit snacks, my iPad, my mom and the very patient, nice people sitting around us who played peekaboo for the last 10 minutes:)
There was no crying though. On any legs. Just activity and a lot of containment!
Once we were finally there, Ryan picked us up at the airport and brought us back to their cute little place. Reid just stood in the doorway for a solid 5 minutes, not sure what to do other than blink and breathe. After the initial shell shock of finally being done with travelling, he settled right in.
He sure loved Ry, Court and Owen. Ryan had to go to school a few of the days we were there and Reid was sure to give him big leg hugs before he left and really any time he could manage to squeeze one in, followed by very enthusiastic waves goodbye.
We bought him the little monkey backpack for the airport since we didn't have a stroller on the way down and he refuses to be carried most of the time. This was next morning when he wanted to wear it. Naturally, he was dressed in the airport:)
Love this little face!!!
Up next...SWIMMING!
